I took my truck to a mechanic I’ve used several times in the past to address a problem Monday. I had some standard maintenance done to it as well, got it back Tuesday, but they didn’t fix the problem. Took it back today for them to fix it. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED?
My truck has burned up. As in caught fire while they were working on it. It’s totaled. Done for. Completely incinerated.
I haven’t seen it yet, waiting for a call back from a friend who may or may not be an attorney.

Well wtf? What kind of truck? Sorry to hear, that really sucks! Their commercial liability should cover it, hopefully it won't be a flight
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:01 |

What?! How does that even happen? Also how does your friend know if they are or are not an attorney.

Interesting situation.
Is this like when a tech wrecks a customer’s car on a test drive? Who’s insurance is going to pay for it?
Sorry to hear about your truck Pat.

It’s a sign to now get one of those sexy cars you’ve posted from the car club.

Woah, sorry to hear that! Keep us posted

F-150 Lariat 4x4. Not sure what happened yet, but I'll find out in about 45 minutes when I go look at it.

Wow, that seriously sucks. Here is a cheesy sympathy card for your loss.

Oh no indeed. INDEED.

keep us posted. what engine? what were the issues you were having them look at?
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:16 |

They want to keep it off of their insurance right now. We’ll see.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:16 |
|
oh FUCK THAT
I think Letto has covered this issue in one of his articles before, it’s the shops responsibility! (based on his article which is based off Michigan Law)

F-150 Lariat 4x4. It WAS a nice truck. Any way it's sliced, I'll be properly reimbursed.

It will now grow more powerful than you CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE!

Wow, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you’ll be taken care of though. As I recall, there was some bulletin about Ford pickups burning up due to a faulty relay. It happened to a friend of mine, actually.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:25 |

Not sure exactly what happened yet, I just know that my truck is toast. BURNT toast.
And I don't think that CL truck would DD.

Is it your birthday? Could just be a mean prank..

you didn’t tell us you had a supercar?
well at least it will pass on their insurance.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:33 |

It had a 5.4 in it. I’m not sure exactly what happened.

The cheese is greatly appreciated.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:53 |

It is, in fact, the shop’s responsibility. They'll be making it right.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:54 |
|
That sucks! I'm sorry to hear that happened. Their insurance is going to be on the hook for a replacement though, right?
![]() 12/03/2015 at 15:55 |
|
It had to do with the system they were testing, which wasn't the relay.

YUP.

What year F150 was it? It’s not like...brand new is it?!
![]() 12/03/2015 at 16:01 |
|
Well, that helps I guess. I would be pissed if that happened. There's a connection made between each owner and their vehicle.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 16:03 |

not with that attitude it wont
![]() 12/03/2015 at 16:32 |

I have respect for the guy who burnt it. Normally when we [mechanics] have a vehicle with a problem we can’t fix we only joke about about killing it with fire, pushing it into traffic, or blowing it up. But this guy actually did it!
/sarcasm
Here’s hoping that it blows over quickly and smoothly and that you get a replacement you love.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 17:54 |
|
I think we’re going to settle this outside of insurance. I was telling the mechanics how much I loved my truck and how I wanted to keep it for a while this morning when I dropped it off.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 17:55 |
|
LOL I think that we’ll come to a mutually beneficial arrangement.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 18:01 |
|
I’m sorry to hear that. Did it catch fire while it was in the shop?
What were they fixing?
If you’re in Michigan, Better Call Steve!
![]() 12/03/2015 at 18:05 |

This is where you play them the tune You Can’t Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones... as you inform them of the legal action you are taking against them that will be settled without issue provided THEIR insurance makes things right.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 18:24 |
|
Yeah I feel the same way about my vehicle. I'm going to keep it until it's totaled.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 19:59 |

It was in the shop. It WAS an ‘06 F150 Lariat 4x4.
And I ain't in Michigan (too damn cold!!)
![]() 12/03/2015 at 21:33 |
|
Oh no!!!!!! I’m quite certain I’d cry at least a little, if that happened to my truck.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 23:31 |
|
I smiled through the pain. They knew I wasn't happy, though.
![]() 12/03/2015 at 23:33 |
|
I’m sure they did.
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:00 |

Makes sense they would probably lose their insurance Bond for the business if they let insurance pay for it.
Insurance the single greatest racket in America, IMHO.
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:04 |
|
They might. I’m not trying to extort them, but I thoroughly enjoyed not having a car payment, and there aren’t any similar trucks with so little miles on it (I averaged about 12k/year). So, if I’m going to have a car, it’s going to be something that’s reasonably priced, but something that I can keep for a while (and be happy with).
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:10 |
|
Word, I know that you know trucks in the South are like golden pixie farts. Doesn’t matter the mileage, they always bring money. Good luck on the luck, sad to hear an old horse was taken from us too soon. (Has ISIS or Al Qaeda claimed responsibility???)
Maybe it’s time to move up to a king ranch?
Dem baseball leather seats :-)
Oh and sorry but we have all been put on at least 60 days electronic surveillance by the NSA for my little terror reference up there.

Trucks down here definitely hold their value. HOWEVER, I don’t want another truck. Don’t need it anymore. My wife has an Expedition, I don’t have a boat to haul anymore, and I haven’t been to a ranch in ages. I need a car that’ll get me in a little trouble.
Also, now they'll see my extensive searches for porn. Thanks.
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:26 |

I didn’t think about it until I was finishing my post. Well good on you for realizing that the new Southern Cadillac isn’t what you need. The ATS intrigues me and makes me reconsider a general dislike of post 1969 GM products.
PS - still trying to convince the wife to let me throw a couple grand at VW stock :)
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:30 |
|
It’s low, but I’m not sure it’s the right time to buy yet. Too much crap still coming down the pipeline.
If I miss having a truck I can always go back to one, but I’d prefer a faster car at this point.
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:36 |

Enterprise exotic rental will rent you a King Ranch in Houston, Nashville, and Atlanta.
Word, about that VW stock.
I’m probably being to ambitious and hasty in wanting more passive income. I need to slow my roll and enjoy the fact I have just turned 30 and already have a pension that I will receive until I die. (And my wife too if she doesn’t remarry when I croak)
![]() 12/04/2015 at 00:55 |
|
It’s important to have a nest egg outside of your pension. And it’s not really about passive income; it’s about stashing money in vehicles that (historically) offer better returns than cash over the long term.
Putting $300/month into an investment that makes an average of 6.5% over 35 years will get you almost half a million dollars (cost basis of $126,000, ROI before taxes).
